Douglas Fir Essential Oil
Botanical name: Pseudotsuga menziesii
Douglas Fir essential oil is steam distilled from the needles and twigs of Pseudotsuga menziesii, an evergreen conifer native to western North America and now cultivated in selected regions of New Zealand. Although commonly called a fir, Douglas Fir belongs to its own distinct genus, Pseudotsuga, meaning “false hemlock”.
Traditionally, various parts of the Douglas Fir tree including the bark, resin, and needles were used by Native American communities in botanical preparations. The tree has long been appreciated for its fresh forest aroma and strong association with evergreen landscapes.
The aroma of Douglas Fir Essential Oil is fresh, woody, crisp, and slightly resinous with bright citrus-like top notes. Its invigorating aromatic profile makes it especially popular in grounding diffuser blends, massage oils, and freshening body care preparations.
This particular Douglas Fir essential oil is sourced from New Zealand’s South Island and steam distilled close to the forest harvest area to help minimise environmental impact and preserve aromatic freshness.
