Discover about natural pain relief and anti-inflammatory treatment.
How pain and inflammation are related
Inflammation causes pain. It happens when the build-up of fluid and toxins lead to swelling, and the swollen tissues press against nerve endings that are very sensitive. The pressure sends pain signals to the brain, causing discomfort.
So, inflammatory pain is sensitivity to pain that occurs in response to tissue damage and inflammation such as trauma, arthritis, frozen shoulder (stiffness and pain in a shoulder joint) and more.
What is inflammation?
The history of inflammation is long and colourful, with descriptions dating back to the ancient Greek and Egyptian cultures. they already observed that inflammation has 5 characteristics: redness, swelling, heat, pain, and loss of function.
Inflammation is an immune system’s response to bacteria invasion or damaged tissue. When you have inflammation, you have an injury, pain, swelling and heat.
Aromatherapy and therapeutic essential oils offer a natural pain relief by topical application of the essential oils with anti-inflammatory properties, which support the healing process.
Chamomile German essential oil has anti-inflammatory properties including cooling, soothing, and pain relieving.
Lavender essential oil is beneficial for the relief of muscular aches and pains. It can be used for the relief of rheumatism, sciatica, and arthritis.
Myrrh is especially helpful if there is a wound, and it heals slowly, due to its anti-microbial properties.
Inflammation can be surface and internal. In case of the surface inflammation, compresses will be of great help as well as bathing with the solution of the above mentioned anti-inflammatory essential oils diluted in a carrier.
In case of the internal inflammation such as arthritis, detoxifying essential oils (Cypress, Fennel, Juniper berry, Lemon), improving circulation essential oils (Black pepper, Ginger, Marjoram) and analgesic, pain relieving essential oils (Benzoin, Chamomile, Lavender, Rosemary) can be used in massage and baths.
