One of essential oils’ benefits is improving scalp and hair health. Some oils help hair growth, others add strength and shine. Give the scalp a gentle massage with circular movements to boost micro circulation while you breath in the wonderful scents of essential oils to feel stimulated and soothed.
Many years ago, I came across a shop assistant with the most beautiful long hair. She wore a simple cotton dress and no make-up, but her hair made her look stunning. I immediately asked her what her secret was. She was more than happy to tell me that she washed her hair with a natural shampoo containing lavender essential oil.
Lavender essential oil can help speed up hair growth due to its quality to generate the growth of cells. Also due to the oil’s anti-microbial and anti-bacterial activities, lavender oil can improve scalp health.
Mix a few drops of the lavender essential oil in a spoon of argan oil and rub just a few drops into your scalp, leave it in at least for 7 minutes and wash your hair as you normally would.
When I was in Venice, I decided to visit a local hairdresser. I was pleasantly surprised when she washed my hair with a shampoo with a fresh peppermint scent. Very uplifting!
Peppermint essential oil increases circulation to the area it is applied to, which can help hair growth. The oil can increase the number of follicles, their depth and overall hair growth.
Create your own hair conditioner by adding 2 drops of peppermint essential oil to a spoon of argan oil, rub a few drops into your scalp, leave it there for 5 minutes before washing out thoroughly.
If you want to improve both hair health and growth, rosemary essential oil proved to be a great choice due to its quality to increase cellular generation. Mix a couple of drops of rosemary oil with a spoon of argan oil and rub a few drops of the mix into your scalp, leave it in for at least 10 minutes and wash it out with a natural shampoo. You can do it once or twice per week.
Cedarwood essential oil is another oil to promote hair growth. It is known for balancing the sebum producing glands in the scalp. It also has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial qualities which can treat various conditions leading to hair loss and dandruff. When used with the essential oils of lavender and rosemary, cedarwood may reduce hair loss.
Mix a few drops of cedarwood in a spoon of argan oil and massage a few drops in the scalp for at least 10 minutes before washing out with a natural shampoo.
In case of dandruff, lemongrass essential oil was found effective when used regularly. Mix a few drops of the oil into a natural shampoo and make sure to rub it into your scalp.
Like cedarwood essential oil, thyme was found helpful actively preventing hair loss. Add 2 drops in a spoon of argan oil and massage a few drops into your scalp. After 10 minutes wash it out with a natural shampoo.
Clary sage essential oil contains linalyl acetate like lavender essential oil, therefore it makes hair stronger. Add 3 drops of the oil to a spoon of argan oil and massage a few drops into your scalp. After 10 minutes wash it our with your natural shampoo.
Tea tree essential oil is a potent anti-bacterial and anti-microbial oil. It is very effective against dandruff and helpful for hair growth. Add 10 drops into your shampoo or mix 2 drops of oil in a spoon of organic argan oil and rub into your scalp. Leave it on for 15 minutes and wash it out with your natural shampoo.
If you have a dry scalp, you may be interested in ylang ylang essential oil, which can stimulate sebum production. The oil can improve the hair structure and reduce hair brakeage. Mix 2 drops of ylang ylang in a spoon of argan oil and massage a few drops into your scalp. Cover your head with a warm towel and leave it on for 30 minutes. Wash it out with a natural shampoo.
