Stretch marks or scarring on skin may be a huge problem for some people. Stretch marks are prominent reddish stripes appearing on the abdomen, buttocks, breasts, and thighs. They gradually turn into the skin colour. Stretch marks are caused by excessive and rapid weight gain typically associated with pregnancy. They appear when the skin becomes overstretched and the fibres in the deep layers tear.
How to treat stretch marks? How to get rid of them?
You can prevent stretch marks, or you can reduce them by massage with aromatherapy oils.
Stretch marks can be prevented by applying massage oils to the places where they commonly appear.
Here are the suggested essential oils:
They are best blended with the base oils such as apricot, avocado and wheatgerm, rich in vitamins and essential fatty acids.
The best way to treat stretch marks is before they appear. This is the situation when prevention is the best option. They are a form of scarring, due to the stretching of the skin especially during pregnancy. Once they are formed, they are very difficult to get rid of. Although, if you dedicate to the daily massage, you can significantly reduce them.
Expecting mothers should massage their tummy and hips daily to support elasticity of the skin. Just massaging with a simple oil such as sweet almond is helpful, but mandarin and neroli essential oils make it more effective. Rosehip base oil will be a splendid base as it contains 30% to 40% of gamma linoleic acid, which is extremely beneficial to skin. You may include another oil which is rich in vitamin E, such as wheatgerm or argan.
Application
Add 5 to 7 drops of essential oil/s to 30ml of a base oil of your choice. Massage a few drops into the affected areas until dry.
