Discover the best essential oils to help quit smoking

Essential oils are the essential part of the aromatherapy. Incorporating essential oils into your lifestyle is a very gentle but potent way to improve your well-being and prevent ailments.

Before I start talking about habits, I want to explain once again how aromatherapy works. One of the important methods of aromatherapy is inhalation. When you inhale essential oil, its molecules enter your circulation system, but before they interact with the limbic system (emotional brain) and almost immediately the brain.

During inhalation scented molecules travel through the nose and affect the brain through millions of receptors of the limbic system which is directly connected to the parts of the brain that control heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress levels and hormone balance. (Higley & Higley 1998) That is how the smell triggers emotions. That is how inhalation of essential oils can influence profoundly our physiological and psychological state.

In simple words, you inhale an essential oil and it evokes memories that are connected to this particular scent in your brain. You get distracted and carried away from other things into the pleasant state of wellness.

Aromatherapy is a very powerful tool to help you quit smoking if you decided to go smoke-free and regain your full sense of smell.

There are some small studies performed to indicate that some essential oils may be beneficial to help curb nicotine cravings. One of the essential oils is black pepper. In 2006, Maria Lis-Balchin mentions that smoking cravings may be decreased by inhaling black pepper essential oil.
